Annual Governor's Award

When Joy Rutherford retired as Chair of our Governing Body last year , the governors wanted to do something that would commemorate the special journey that she had inspired and guided our school along , during the twelve years that she was a governor.  She was passionately committed to driving a steadfast vision to make Norley an outstanding school by providing excellent teaching and  learning ,  and a happy , bright, caring environment where every child is given the opportunity , encouragement and support they need to be the very best that they can be.

This award was therefore created to recognise the child who , throughout their whole time at Norley School , has shown the same drive , determination , perseverance , dependability and integrity . Someone with the courage of their own convictions who could always be relied upon to do the right thing, and inspire others to do so too.

This year’s recipient of this special award is Scarlett.

I have known Scarlett for over 10 years, from when she was in a pram and Judith brought her to school whilst dropping off the other children she child minded. I remember how Judith worried about Scarlett starting school; 'I don't know how we will tame her hair!'

Scarlett started school with no problems at all and this has been true for the whole of Scarlett's school life; she has been no problem, just brilliant at solving them (and not just maths problems!). Scarlett is there for everyone and looks out for us all, pupils and staff. It is like she has a sixth sense and is tuned into anyone who needs a helping hand. If anything is lost Scarlett will find it, if anything needs doing Scarlett can be relied upon to do it, if anyone is upset or needs a friend Scarlett is there to comfort. She is one of the most sincere people I know and she puts others before herself.

Another special quality Scarlett has is that she is an amazing team player. She is naturally sporty and excels at most sports. However, Scarlett doesn't look for the individual glory, she likes to be part of a winning team. She is naturally competitive but encourages everyone. If her team doesn't win she will always look for the positive points.

Scarlett has a lovely outlook on life. This is what makes her so worthy of this award. She will go far but will make sure others do too.

Well done Scarlett, you are a special person.

Thank you to last years recipient, Emma for returning to pass on the award.
