Become a parent and become a member of the PTFA! Like the school itself it has a small, but perfectly formed, organising committee. (ok …not perfect by any means, so new blood is always welcome to raise the standard!) Our main “raison d’etre” is a series of events that have equal emphasis on socialising and raising funds for the school.
There is then a major event planned each term where the focus may be on the children, the adults or both together. Events in recent years have included; Halloween disco for the children (spooky costumes!), “Back to School" Quiz Night for the adults, a Race Night and Easter Egg Hunts.
There is also the main traditional event Wreath Making. This and other events are open to the wider community to form links with the village. To reinforce this, the PTFA arranged for a textile recycling bank to be placed in the school car park so that parents, carers and local villagers could drop off their old unwanted textiles, which are then weighed and turned into cash for the PTFA! So clear out your wardrobe and help a good cause.
So the accountants are asking “how much?” and “what did you spend it on?”. For the last few years we’ve raised about £2,000 each year . Expenditure is recommended by the staff and allocated at PTFA meetings. Examples include the purchase of lego resources for coding and programming, a contribution towards transport for school trips and/or visitors, the renewal of the Pirate Ship and play equipment and funding for a whole school annual pantomime visit.
Some parents also support teaching staff in the classroom, for example with reading and on school visits.
PTFA meetings take place once a term and alternate between evenings in the pub and at after-school pick-up, thereby ensuring that working mums and dads can get involved as well as anyone else. The AGM is held in September. If you would like to help the PTFA in any way or just find out more about what we do, please come along to a meeting. The meeting dates are available from the School Bursar, Mrs White.
If you would like to be put in contact with a PTFA parent for an informal chat about the school you can do so through Mrs White on 01928 788471.
